Total Fabrication

Not the first time Charissa Thompson made stuff up

Category: Trusting the Media, one of the Seven Deadly Stupidities.

“I cheated on my art history test, I cheated on like, so many math tests.” This was Charissa Thompson during an interview about a year before her most recent admission.

In the category of “You must be joking,” Thompson, now a host of Amazon’s Thursday Night Football broadcast, was previously a sideline reporter for Fox Sports and covered the NFL. Here is what she volunteered last week:

"I’ve said this before, so I haven’t been fired for saying it, but I’ll say it again," Thompson said. "I would make up the report sometimes because the coach wouldn’t come out at halftime or it was too late and I was like, I didn’t want to screw up the report, so I was like, 'I’m just gonna make this up.'"

The reaction from the industry was not one of approval (thank goodness), but of swift condemnation:

"A good portion of the public doesn’t trust the media as it is," The Athletic reporter Chris Kirschner said. "I cannot believe she would proudly admit this. This causes significant harm to the people who actually take the job seriously. It’s entirely unethical and worthy of never working in the field again."

Are the egos of some people (Donald Trump?) so big they think they can say or do whatever they want? So far, Thompson is getting away with it. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Trusting the Media is not advisable when making a Tectonic Decision.
